Just the basics.

Green Thumb

First of all…A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THIS GUY…

This is my sister’s boyfriend of 14,321 years. He turned 24 today and he’s also known as my “sis.”

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRAD!!!!

Another morning spent at the gym, except it was leg day…dun, dun, dunnnnn.

True story.

I did the following today:

Lunges with 20 lbs in each hand: 3 sets x 12

Calf Raises: 3 sets x 12

Wide Stance Squat with 25 lbs on each side of the barbell: 3 sets of 12

Leg Curl: 3 sets of 12 with 30 lbs

Leg Extension: 3 sets of 12 with 40 lbs

After I did all that, I could barely walk and did the eliptical for 20 minutes.

I wore my HR monitor and found out that I only burned around 350 calories during my work out.

WHAT IS THAT NON-SENSE. Leg day is the worst. I was really huffing and puffing during the lunges and squats. I HATE lunges with a passion. They kill my legs and prevent me from being able to walk after performing them.

Another super accurate depiction.

Now that I have been lifting heavy I have noticed that I am seriously sore after my workouts. I think I need to lift heavier on my arm days because I definitely not as sore as the day after leg day.

Last week after leg day I couldn’t sit on the toilet properly without being in pain for 2 days. 2 DAYS PEOPLE.

I love it.

After finishing up some time at the gym, I came home, ate some breakfast and then headed to a nearby nursery. I picked up 4 flats of Pansies, and 2 rhododendron’s to plant at our house. I actually had to google how to spell rhododendron’s. WHO actually knows that off the top of their head.

I literally worked from 10:30AM- 2:30 with a 30 minute break for lunch tilling, planting, and watering these darn flowers.

One half of the house.

Second half.

First of all, I could never go into landscaping. My hands hurt, I am sunburned, and I am exhausted. What a ridiculous line of work. No wonder men with big muscles do that kind of thing.

Second of all, no one in my neighborhood plants flowers, and I mean no one. I am so confused. They have this fancy landscaping with trees, shrubs and bushes. Which aren’t bushes the same thing as shrubs. I don’t know.

Anyways, no one plants flowers. Well now the T resident has flowers. Take that lazy neighbors!!!

Third of all, what kind of builder puts a water spiket outside in the front, without any actual water hook up or open/close valve? We have a spiket in the front, but water does not come out of it. We have tried EVERYTHING. Nothing. Not even a drop.

Well I fixed that problem. I ran a hose from our garage up the side of the house to the front, and then bought a new coil hose to reach the plants and the lamp post where there are even more plants. BOOM.

Now that you have learned about my exercise this morning, and my manual labor on my day off, I’m going to drink my daily coffee (yes it’s 4PM but I want it now) and relax on my couch with my iPad, and Pinterest, which I cannot stop looking at for some reason now.

Anyone else have a green thumb? And by anyone else I mean not including myself.

Female lifters….DO YOU LIFT HEAVY WITH LOW REPS OR LIGHT WITH MORE REPS?

I have read sooo many articles and talked to so many fitness models and trainers…girls…lift heavy. We don’t have enough estrogen to get bulky, we get toned!

  1. I don’t lift at all…but I wish I did. I am hoping to cut back my miles this summer and lift more but you know…we will see where time takes me. I don’t understand planting at all and I swear things just die in my general presence…

  2. Well you may not have burned it all then, but lifting burns so many calories after to let the muscles recover! I wish I had a gym with free weights. Right now, I only have small hand weights until I have a real job and can afford to join a gym. The gym in my apartment complex only has like one lifting machine that could use some WD40. I miss lifting…we lifted HEAVY during swimming!

  3. i have been lifting heavy for about a year, it has slowed down my running pace, and my legs feel like lead when I run. I feel like you have to chose one or the other. Core work seems to be better for running. My HRM says the same, I can have one full hour of death, and still only burn 350 calories. lol. But the I love the soreness, it reminds me i am doing something.
